A discrete absorbent insert comprising, a first sheet, a second sheet in facing relation with the first sheet, and an absorbent core positioned between the first sheet and the second sheet, wherein the absorbent core defines a core perimeter and the first sheet and the second sheet extend beyond the core perimeter and are joined together to form a perimeter seal, further comprising a first intake material positioned between the first sheet and the absorbent core, the absorbent insert having a dry thickness of at least 1 mm, a minimum width of less than 120 mm, a maximum width of at least 170 mm, an absorbent capacity of at least 600 g, and a length of 375 mm to 475 mm, wherein the discrete absorbent insert has an intake rate for a first insult through the first sheet having a first value and an intake rate for a first insult through the second sheet having a second value, wherein a difference between the first value and the second value is less than 20%.
